Face data accessed and processed
Hairline processes camera images that may contain a face on the device using Apple's Vision framework. It derives the detected face rectangle (position and size), the center positions of both eyes, head angles (yaw, pitch and roll), detection confidence, and forehead brightness and its measurement region. Unavailable measurements may be absent. Capture dates and times, image dimensions, camera settings, device orientation and shooting-condition match scores are also recorded.
How face data is used
Face data is used only to help match the position, angle, distance and lighting of a baseline photo and to align and compare photos. It is not used for personal identification, an identity or facial-authentication database, advertising, tracking, AI model training, medical diagnosis or evaluation of treatment results. Optional App Lock uses iOS authentication. Hairline does not receive or store Face ID or Touch ID biometric credentials or the device passcode.
Where face data is stored and protected
When the user chooses Save, the captured image containing the face, a thumbnail, an aligned image when available, and the face measurements and capture records listed above are stored only in Hairline's private application sandbox on the device. Files use iOS file protection and are excluded from device backups. Hairline has no server storage or cloud synchronization. Full facial-landmark point arrays, 3D face meshes and facial identity embeddings are not stored.
Face data retention and deletion
Live preview frames and temporary facial-landmark analysis results are processed in memory and are not saved as video or landmark point arrays. Unsaved photo candidates are not added to the app's stored records. Temporary data is updated during processing and disappears when the relevant memory is released or the app terminates. Photos and face measurements that the user saves are retained for long-term comparison until the user deletes that record; there is no automatic expiry. Deleting a record from the timeline or photo detail screen removes its original, thumbnail and aligned images and its associated face measurements and capture information from the app's storage. Deleting the app removes the remaining local data (offloading the app retains its data). The developer cannot restore these backup-excluded records after app deletion or device loss.
Third-party sharing and optional Photos export
Hairline does not transmit face images or face measurements to servers operated by the developer, Apple or other third parties, and does not sell, rent or otherwise share them with third parties. Vision analysis runs on the device. There are no accounts, ads, tracking, analytics, developer-operated crash collection or third-party SDKs for those purposes. Only when the user explicitly chooses and confirms an export does Hairline copy the selected image and capture date to the Apple Photos library. Face coordinates, angles, match scores and other record data are not exported. Hairline requests add-only Photos access and does not read the library. Exported copies may sync or be stored through services such as iCloud Photos according to the user's settings. They are outside Hairline's lock and deletion controls and must be deleted separately in Photos. The in-app original remains after export.
Permissions and reminders
The camera is used for photos, device authentication for unlocking, and device orientation for recording shooting conditions. Add-only Photos permission is requested when you export. Weekly reminders are optional and scheduled locally. Change permissions in iPhone Settings and reminders in the app.
